Fly Eagles Fly - The NFL's Next Dynasty

By: Scott Edwards

When looking at the NFL, you begin to think, who’s next? Who is the next team to become a dynasty? Tom Brady’s career is winding down, and it seems as though the Patriots empire is beginning to as well, so who else would be better suited to take the dynasty title at this point than the Eagles? The team that defeated the reigning dynasty of the NFL in the Super Bowl may be the team that can become the next one.

The team is led by now 3rd year QB Carson Wentz, who was bound to win the MVP award in his second season until a torn ACL ended his season prematurely. With numbers of 3,296 passing yards, 33 TD, and just 7 INTs, it is hard to imagine that Wentz will only improve has he gets older. Wentz is an unbelievable athlete who possesses pure accuracy, a beautiful spiral on his ball, and an absolute cannon for an arm. The arm-sleeved QB brings an undeniable swagger to the field game in and game out, leaving you in awe after seeing some of the things he can do on the field. He may be what people thought Andrew Luck could be. “Wentzylvania” is just becoming a thing, and he will be at the helm of a possible dynasty years to come. After seeing how dominant this team can be under Head Coach Doug Pederson, I only see success in this Eagles team's future.

The Patriots dynasty began after they won their first Super Bowl in 2001, and it only seems right that the next dynasty starts from another franchise also winning their first. The Eagles have young weapons on offense who may only get better with time. RB Jay Ajayi approaches his first full season as an Eagle and the lead back, and he is complimented in the backfield by Corey Clement and Darren Sproles. There's also the receiving core of Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholor, and Zach Ertz who form an elite trio of wideouts. With an offensive line that is among the best when healthy, the Eagles look poised to have one of the top teams in the league for a long time.

Adding to an offense that brings the scoring is a defense who brings the boom. The defense is led by veterans like S Malcolm Jenkins and DT Fletcher Cox, and is complimented by quite possibly the most dominant front seven any team, with the likes of Cox, Barnett, Long, and Graham returning, and adding former Pro Bowlers DE Michael Bennett and DT Haloti Ngata. Depending how long they can keep this faction of a defense together, it will be hard to not have the Eagles as the favorites in the NFC for the next five years.

A team that plays smart while managing to bring intensity and creativity is something than can and will to lead to absolute dominance. It was proven against the best in the NFL in the biggest game of the season with a back up quarterback at the lead, so you can only imagine what an improved roster with their MVP-caliber QB returning from an injury can do this season and for seasons to come. Thanks in part to their success last season coupled with their revamped team heading into this season, the Eagles are in perfect position to be the dynasty of the future.
