Jimmy G - The Next Great NFL Quarterback?

By Scott Edwards

In the middle of the 2017-18 NFL Season, the San Francisco 49ers acquired their QB of the future in Jimmy Garoppolo, trading a 2nd-Round pick to the New England Patriots for his services. What followed was a sneak peak of what could be the return to greatness in San Francisco. Garoppolo led the 49ers to a 5-0 record in his starts after being a team that went 1-10 without him at the helm. That's quite the turn around for a team that was having such a sorry season Jimmy G showed up. So it raises the question: Is Jimmy G the next great QB in the NFL?

The NFL has seen QBs come out of nowhere, top guys bust, and guys be pampered to greatness. Jimmy Garoppolo has all the characteristics to be a big-time QB in this league for the foreseeable future, but many people are wondering if he can be the real deal. Sure, he led the 49ers to a 5-0 record at the end of last season, but can he be the guy who can lead the 49ers back to the promise land, back to the days of Montana and Young? The answer is simply, is yes.

In his five games last season, Jimmy threw for 1,560 yards, an average of 312 yard per game, with 7 TDs and 5 INTs. While the TD/INT ratio isn’t all that pretty, you have to consider who he was throwing to and who he was competing against. In the five games he played, he faced three playoff teams, including the top defense in the league, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who he led his team to score 44 points against. He has the athletic ability to be a mobile QB, but he is at his best sitting in the pocket and slinging the ball down field. With the return of Pierre Garcon this season, along with being able to learn HC Kyle Shanahan’s playbook, we should expect even more this coming season.

As the highest paid player in the NFL, the 49ers put all belief into Jimmy G as their guy, and he brings the ability, the leadership, and the swagger to the field game in and game out. Having a quick release with his ability to move and run when needed helps out too. The former heir to the throne of Tom Brady has a chance to make a name for himself earlier than expected, and he certainly will be the next elite QB in the NFL.

The one that Patriots fans say “got away” will look to prove them right. Jimmy Garoppolo is the next big thing in this league and it feels everyone who follows football knows it, so instead of trying to show doubt and hope he fails, enjoy the possible rise of the next legendary QB in the NFL. For now, one season at a time, enjoy the show.

What do you think? Can Jimmy be the next elite NFL QB? Or do you think he will flop? Let me know!

Fly Eagles Fly - The NFL's Next Dynasty

By: Scott Edwards Twitter: @scottedwards18 When looking at the NFL, you begin to think, who’s next? Who is the next team to become a dynasty? Tom Brady’s career is winding down, and it seems as though the Patriots empire is beginning to as well, so who else would be better suited to take the dynasty title at this point than the Eagles? The team that defeated the reigning dynasty of the NFL in the Super Bowl may be the team that can become the next one. The team is led by now 3 rd year QB Carson Wentz, who was bound to win the MVP award in his second season until a torn ACL ended his season prematurely. With numbers of 3,296 passing yards, 33 TD, and just 7 INTs, it is hard to imagine that Wentz will only improve has he gets older. Wentz is an unbelievable athlete who possesses pure accuracy, a beautiful spiral on his ball, and an absolute cannon for an arm. The arm-sleeved QB brings an undeniable swagger to the field game in and game out, leaving you in awe after see...

Deshaun Watson Injury Shakes Up the NFL

One day after the Houston Astros won the World Series in game 7, their star qb, Deshaun Watson of the Texans, went down with a non contact ACL injury, ending his historic rookie year. With Deshaun Watson now head to IR, along for the ride is the hopes of a playoff run for the Texans. Watson was doing more for this team in the half of a season he played than any Texans QB from the past 5 years. Watson is tied for the lead in passing touchdowns with 19 and is coming off a game in which he shredded the vaunted Seahawks defense. In that game, he became the first player EVER to put up over 400 passing yards, 4 tds, and over 50 rushing yards. The Texans have relied on their defense for the past few years, but after injuries to Watt and Mercilus, the Texans offense was forced to step up and did so in a major way under the lead of Watson. His injury all but crushes any hopes the Texans had of seeing the postseason.            Wats...

The Return of Josh Gordon

If you were to google this headline, I'm sure you would find at least a dozen articles about this story, but all different seasons. Could this finally be the year Josh Gordon makes his triumphant return to the National Football League? The 26 year old receiver hasn't touched the field since the 2014 season. He's super talented, making the pro bowl in 2013, but his career has been derailed by a crippling drug problem. I was a big Josh Gordon fan, always keeping up with the news to see if it's worth making a waiver claim for him in fantasy. I drafted this guy last year and really expected a return in the 2016 season. After Gordon checked himself into rehab, I gave up, and thought for sure that marked the end of his career. Then he goes and drops that video this year pouring his heart out to the internet, trying to come back. Well it activated what little sympathy the commissioner had and they decided to reinstate him. It's conditional, though, which means he won...
